1 - Aim
Dimensions Mumbai aims at exploring new creative talent among young media professionals and students by providing an opportunity to showcase their work in the process of capturing the buoyancy and variety of life in this Financial and Entertainment Capital of India in any digital format, including their Mobile phones.
2 - Selection
Mumbai Academy of Moving Image chaired by noted Indian Filmmaker Shyam Benegal is responsible for inviting films to compete in Dimensions Mumbai.
3 - Films eligible to participate in the DIMENSIONS MUMBAI competition
- The competition is open to residents of Mumbai, who are film and media professionals or students.
- The age of the participants should be 25 years or less.
- The films must have been produced between October 1st, 2009 and the start of the 12th Mumbai Film Festival.
- Film’s running time should not be more than 5 (five) minutes, including start and end credits.
- The films should not have been presented in India theatrically either commercially or in Festivals, or in video / telecast / internet.
The festival director reserves the right to settle all cases not covered by the guidelines and to grant exceptions in special cases.
4 - Version and Subtitles
All films must be screened in their original version, with English subtitles. The cost of subtitling is the responsibility of the producer.
5 - Media accepted for selection
The deadline for sending the films with the filled in entry forms must be strictly observed. Written registration as well as two copies of the submitted film in all-region DVD format or VCD must reach 12th Mumbai Film Festival by the submission deadline i.e. September 15th, 2010. If the film is in any language other than English, it must have English sub-titles. The name of the film, filmmaker and contact number must be on the DVDs / VCDs submitted.
6 - Documentation
Each submission should have the following documentation:
- Photocopy of the membership / id card of any film / tv / media organization. Students may submit a photocopy of their college I-card.
- Freelancers need to provide proof of their work in their fields, either a letter from the organization they have worked for, or clippings / work samples.
- Synopsis of the film, a biography and filmography of the director, producer and of the leading actors, cameraman, music composer, editor, a selection of stills from the film, a recent photograph of the director, and a full list of artistic and technical credits.
- For the age proof of the director(s), a photocopy of any legitimate document (passport, PAN card, etc.) should be provided at the time of entry submission.
7 - Jury
To award prizes in Dimensions Mumbai section, the Chairman of Mumbai Academy of Moving Image appoints the members of the Jury as well as its President. The Jury is composed of at least three personalities. No person who has participated in the production or promotion of any film selected for the Dimensions Mumbai may serve on the Jury.
The Festival Director or his representative may attend jury deliberations but will take no part in the voting. Jury members are sworn to secrecy. Jury discussions and ballots remain strictly confidential even after the Festival has ended.
8 - Awards for films in the Dimensions Mumbai Competition
The Jury is obliged to award the following prizes to films participating in the Dimensions Mumbai Competition:

Silver Gateway trophy and cash prize of Rs. One Lakh (Rs. 1,00,000/-) for the Director(s).

Silver Gateway trophy and cash prize of Rs. 50,000/- for the Director(s).
9 - Official logo and advertising
The Festival expects the official Festival logo with “Official Programme 2010” to be displayed in all advertising and promotional material of all the films selected for screening in this section in the 12th Mumbai Film Festival. These should also be clearly visible for theatrical release as well as for Video / DVD distribution in India and abroad. Award-winning films will receive the appropriate logo with the name of the prize.
9 - Screenings after the 12th Mumbai Film Festival
Mumbai Film Festival shall not have any objection for screening of short films (selected for the Dimensions Mumbai competition at 12th Mumbai Film Festival) at other festivals or for non-commercial display after 12th Mumbai Film Festival
(Oct. 21 - 28, 2010). However, the film makers are required to take prior written permission from Mumbai Film Festival.
The filmmaker shall continue to hold the IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) for the film(s) submitted, however, all rights including but not limited pertaining to distribution, exhibition, alteration, modification, screening, etc., of the films submitted shall rest with Mumbai Film Festival in perpetuity. By submitting the film for the competition the film makers, producer, etc. do hereby transfer all the rights as mentioned hereinabove to Mumbai Film Festival and give up any claims, compensations, rights, etc on the said film.
Filmmakers of the selected short films shall make themselves available for various PR initiatives around the competition at the appointed date, time and place as requested by Mumbai Film Festival.
