S. Narayan
In a career spanning more than three decades, S. Narayan has worked with every aspect of international film festivals and business of film : as festival programmer-director, international film distributor, journalist, producer and administrator.
He started his career in films in 1983 as the Deputy Director (Programming) in the Directorate of Film Festival, organizers of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Before that, in 1979 and 1981 he was the Liaison Officer of the International Jury at the International Film Festivals of India held in New Delhi.
In 1989, he joined the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), where he headed video marketing and marketing of films overseas. He has travelled widely around the world participating in Film Festivals and markets.
In the year 2001, he started a film distribution company, exporting Indian films abroad and importing foreign films in India. He pioneered the movement to bring in award winning international films to Indian screens on a commercial basis.
He was the festival director of the Golden Elephant, 11th Children’s Film Festival of India, Hyderabad, the most successful children’s film festival in the country. During his stint at DFF, he curated the first and only Wildlife film festival in the country that was organized as a part of the International Film Festival of India in 1987.
