President of the Jury

JANE CAMPION

Academy Award winner, Hollywood-based filmmaker, screen writer and producer will be the President of the Jury.

JANE CAMPION’s Peel won the Golden Palm award at the 1986 Cannes film festival and she is one of only four women ever to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director. Her films as director include In the Cut starring Meg Ryan (2003) and Bright Star (2009) starring Ben Wishaw and Abbie Cornish, which received 15 nominations. She was nominated for best director and won an Oscar for best screenplay for The Piano (1993). She produced Soft Fruit (2000) and Abduction: The Megumi Yokota Story (2006), which won best documentary film awards at numerous prestigious film festivals.

12th Mumbai Film Festival will play host to a first-ever for any film festival in India: its unprecedented power roster of an all-women jury.

Accompanying Campion will be four internationally-celebrated panelists, each eminent in their own right.

BAFTA Award-winning producer of Pawel Pawlikowski’s My Summer of Love, TANYA SEGHATCHIAN is Head of the Film Fund at the UK Film Council. She is a pivotal player in the Harry Potter film franchise, having developed and produced the first four in the series for Warner Bros, alongside David Heyman, Steve Kloves and directors Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuaron and Mike Newell. She was selected by Variety as one of their ‘Producers to watch’ in 2005. Prior to films, she Seghatchian worked in broadcasting.

AT 17, SAMIRA MAKHMALBAF directed the movie, The Apple that was invited to more than 100 film festivals, and by 18 she catapulted into the official section of the 1998 Cannes Film Festival as the youngest director in the world to participate. An internationally-acclaimed Iranian filmmaker and script writer, her second feature Black Board was awarded the Jury Prize in Cannes in 2000. Samira also won UNESCO Award of the Venice Film Festival in 2002 for 11.09.01 - September 11.

Known as the greatest of South Korean stars and one of three divas to make up the its adulated ‘Troika’, Veteran South Korean actress YOON JEONG-HEE debuted as an actress in 1967 in Cheongchun Geukjang. She made her comeback after a 15-year absence from the screen in 2010 with Lee Chang-dong’s Poetry starring Jeong-Hee Yoon, which was screened in the Competition section of 2010 Cannes Film Festival. She has acted in more than 250 films and won over 20 awards for her work.

National Film Award-winning Indian actor SUHASINI MANIRATNAM, is also a director and producer and the wife of celebrated director, Maniratnam, with whom she runs the production company, Madras Talkies. She is also the niece of Tamil film maker and superstar Kamal Hassan. A trained costume designer, cinematographer, hair stylist, and the first female graduate of the Madras Film Institute, she made her film debut in 1980 with the Tamil film Nenjathai Killathe. Since then, Maniratnam went on to become an accomplished artiste in numerous critically-acclaimed Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil and Telugu films, winning the National Award for Best Actress for her role in the Tamil film Sindhu Bhairavi (1985). In 1996, she wrote the screenplay and directed the film Indira and produced Iruvar (1997).
